Tade Oyerinde, a Nigerian-born tech entrepreneur, has secured $46 million in Series B funding for his for-profit online community college startup, Campus. The funding round, announced on March 20, 2025, was led by General Catalyst and brings Campus’ total funding to over $100 million.
Founded in 2022, Campus offers live, online courses that lead to associate degrees and professional certifications in high-demand fields such as:
- Business Administration
- Medical Assisting
- Technical Support
- Applied Artificial Intelligence
With tuition set at $7,200 per year, fully covered by Pell Grants for eligible students, Campus provides an affordable alternative to traditional colleges, which cost between $11,000 and $43,000 annually.
The demand for AI and technical skills has surged by over 70% in the past five years, and Campus’ applied AI program aligns with industry needs. Graduates have gone on to attend top universities like New York University, Penn State, and the University of California, San Diego, while others have immediately entered the workforce.
Solving the U.S. Student Loan Crisis
With student loan debt in the U.S. reaching nearly $1.8 trillion, Campus is tackling the financial strain of higher education by offering a low-cost, high-quality learning experience. Ken Chenault, chairman of General Catalyst, praised Campus for combining academic rigour with modern technology to prepare students for a competitive global economy.
Campus currently employs over 100 professors, many from top institutions like Princeton, Stanford, and Howard University. The startup is expanding its reach with this new funding, allowing more students to learn from elite educators without financial barriers.
Oyerinde believes that elite education should be accessible to all. He stated,
“In America, we should have elite education for everyone—everyone should be able to learn from the top professors in the country, develop useful skills, and then go on to use those skills to create a great life for themselves.”
With this $46M investment, Campus is set to disrupt traditional higher education, offering a scalable, affordable model that aligns with the future of work and education.
