Sandisk Unveils Groundbreaking 256TB SSD for AI Workloads
At FMS 2025, Sandisk took center stage with a bold statement the future of enterprise flash storage has arrived. The company unveiled its new 256TB NVMe SSD, built on its UltraQLC platform. With this milestone launch, Sandisk pushes the limits of capacity, performance, and power efficiency in the world of flash storage.
This is more than a technical upgrade. It is a response to the evolving data landscape. In the age of artificial intelligence, machine learning, and real-time analytics, enterprise workloads require speed, scale, and smarter systems. Sandisk’s new SSD is a solution built for that reality.
Built for the AI Era
The Sandisk 256TB SSD is designed specifically for data-intensive AI operations. Whether it’s ingesting data, processing at high speeds, or scaling intelligent data lakes, this drive delivers. It doesn’t just store information. It enables faster insights, better decision-making, and cost-effective growth.
Speaking at the event, Khurram Ismail, Chief Product Officer at Sandisk, said:
Our UltraQLC platform is the result of years of engineering and research. It allows us to deliver massive capacities with high performance and power efficiency. This launch helps our customers move faster, process more, and innovate continuously.
This SSD offers more than storage. It redefines how flash memory can drive next-generation enterprise systems.
Key Features Powering the 256TB Innovation
Sandisk’s latest SSD introduces several new technologies:
- Direct Write QLC eliminates the need for traditional buffering, enabling fast and safe data writing from the start.
- BiCS8 QLC NAND doubles storage density while maintaining a compact die size.
- Dynamic Frequency Scaling improves performance by up to 10 percent without increasing power use.
- Multi-core Controller supports reliable throughput even at massive capacity levels.
- Enhanced Data Retention reduces recycles by up to 33 percent, improving durability while saving energy.
Each feature is designed to strike a balance between high performance and efficient power use. This is crucial for hyperscale cloud platforms, where every watt and every millisecond matter.
Availability and What’s Next
Sandisk confirmed that the 256TB UltraQLC SSD will be available in U.2 form factor in the first half of 2026. More formats will be introduced later in the year. A smaller 128TB variant will also be released for organizations with different storage needs.
Sandisk will present a keynote on Wednesday, August 6, at 11:40 AM during FMS 2025. Visitors can experience the new SSD and learn more about the UltraQLC platform at Booth 607.
As industries move toward AI-first architectures and data becomes central to innovation, Sandisk continues to lead with bold storage solutions. The 256TB SSD is not just about space, it’s about speed, intelligence, and future-ready infrastructure.
