Dangote Refinery Slashes Fuel Prices and Deploys CNG Trucks

Relief for Nigerians as Fuel Prices Drop

Dangote Refinery is changing the game for fuel distribution in Nigeria. The company has announced a nationwide price cut for premium motor spirit (PMS), giving millions of Nigerians some long-awaited relief. Alongside the price reduction, it is also rolling out compressed natural gas (CNG) trucks to make fuel distribution faster and cheaper.

This bold step comes at a time when rising costs have been squeezing businesses and households. With this move, Dangote is taking a direct approach to reduce fuel prices and ease inflationary pressure across the country.

Lower Pump Prices Across Regions

Starting this week, the gantry price has been set at N820 per litre. As a result, Lagos and other South-West states will retail at N841 per litre. Abuja, Rivers, Delta, Edo, and Kwara states will sell at N851 per litre.

This adjustment is expected to bring immediate relief to drivers, transport operators, and small businesses. For many MSMEs, lower fuel costs mean better margins and a chance to stay profitable.

First Phase Rollout and Expansion

The first phase of this programme covers Lagos, Kwara, Delta, Edo, Rivers, the Federal Capital Territory, and other South-West states. More states will benefit soon as Dangote deploys additional trucks. This phased rollout ensures steady distribution and avoids supply disruptions.

The Power of CNG Trucks

A key part of this plan is the deployment of CNG-powered trucks. These trucks are more efficient and cost-effective, cutting down logistics expenses that drive up fuel prices.

Dangote Group explained that the move is about building a stronger and smarter energy distribution network. According to its projections, the shift to CNG trucks could save Nigeria over N1.8 trillion annually.

Big Boost for Small Businesses

This programme is not just about cheaper fuel, it is also about economic growth. More than 42 million micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) are set to benefit from reduced energy costs. Lower operational expenses will improve profit margins and help businesses expand.

Revitalising the Economy

Dangote Group is investing over N720 billion into this project. The initiative will also revitalise dormant filling stations across the country, ensuring fuel availability in more communities.

Additionally, this project will create new jobs for truck drivers, filling station managers, and attendants. As a result, it will contribute to reducing unemployment and stimulating local economies.

Dangote has urged fuel station operators, telecommunications companies, and large-scale fuel users to partner with the initiative. Strong collaboration will help speed up nationwide adoption and maximise economic benefits.

Driving Nigeria Toward Energy Security

This initiative is more than a short-term fix. It is part of a long-term vision to stabilise fuel prices, strengthen the naira, and make the country less dependent on costly imports.

With cheaper fuel and smarter distribution, Nigerians can expect lower transport fares and reduced costs for goods and services.
